| All three of the doctors perform minor surgical procedures at the surgery. We have a fully equipped treatment room including overhead light for such procedures.
Should you have a condition that may be suitable for minor surgery at the practice:
...then we ask you to make an appointment with the doctor of your choice for an initial assessment. If suitable the proposed procedure will be discussed with you, it also allows you to ask any questions about the proposed surgery. Assuming you are happy we will ask you to sign a consent form for the procedure and a follow up appointment will be made in a minor surgery session.
For the procedure we would normally inject local anaesthetic to numb the area, and allow pain free surgery. However, once the anaesthetic wears off you may need some pain killers.
If the procedure has involved cutting the skin then there will be a scar. Some scars will need stitches inserting. This scar may be covered with a dressing initially and further instructions will be given on the care of the scar. The length of time the stitches will be recommended to stay in will vary, we will advise you at the time. Removal of stitches could not be simpler and is generally completely pain free.
If we have removed something then it will be sent for histology. This is where the piece of tissue is sent to the laboratory and a Consultant Pathologist will analyse the specimen, allowing a diagnosis to be made. We ask that you contact the doctor who performed the surgery approximately 4 weeks post procedure to discuss the histology result.
Complications are thankfully rare, the commonest one is infection. Should there be redness with increasing pain and possibly a smelly discharge then you may have developed an infection. If you think this may have happened please may an appointment for the wound to be examined.
We regularly review and audit our minor surgery. We do this to quality check our results and to help identify any potential problems.
