All women between 50 and 70 years of age are invited for a mammogram every 3 years as part of the NHS breast screening programme. For more information see the NHS cancer screening pages.

Women over 70 are not routinely invited by the programme. However, women over 70 are more at risk of getting breast cancer as the risk increases with age. Approximately 33% of all breast cancers occur in women over the age of 70. It is important that they are also screened every 3 years. You have the right to request a mammogram. You may access this by phoning or writing to the Dorset Breast Screening Unit to make an appointment.
